Bruise Cruise is a unique festival experience, a floating rock ‘n’ roll adventure vacation bringing people from all over the world and multiple demographics together for one epic journey where social barriers are broken down and people unite. In 72 hours friendships were made, numbers exchanged, love connections initiated, bathrobes donned, and hundreds of mai tais, mojitos, and bahama mamas consumed. In addition to participating in one of the most action packed and positive vibe soaked musical weekends ever, attendees were able to witness the cultural movement that is the Bruise Cruise evolve and take life.

The 2012 lineup featured live performances from Fucked Up, King Khan and The Shrines, Thee Oh Sees, The Soft Pack, Quintron and Miss Pussycat, Neil Hamburger, The Togas (debut cover band featuring Ty Segall, members of the Strange Boys, Shannon and the Clams and Reigning Sound), Mikal Cronin and a special surprise performance from Kyp Malone of TV on the Radio. In addition to music and comedy, the festival featured a dance class by bounce artist Vockah Redu and multiple spoken word workshops by Jello Biafra of the Dead Kennedys.

Bruise Cruise’s very own version of The Dating Game was a huge success in matching up singles on board. Cruise Director Damian Abraham of Fucked Up hosted the show and helped pair up lovely couples. In the spirit of the perfect blend of game show and comedy, contestants who weren’t selected after a round of answering five ridiculously mischievous questions, received the consolation prizes of musical vibrators from OhMiBod or dick towels from dicktowel.com. The winning couples won a date along with a year supply of condoms to use at their personal discretion.

Multiple late-night dance parties went down both in the Bahamas and on the ship. Late night Saturday at Senor Frog’s, Jello Biafra threw down an impressive dj set with a mix of soul, garage, surf, and punk cuts with other “incredibly strange surprises”. On the last night of the festival on the Lido Deck of the ship, Quintron debuted his swamp stack sound system comprised of shrimp coolers and palm fronds. Mixing garage, swamp boogie, and zydeco, Quintron united bruisers and normal cruisers on one sweaty dance floor underneath the stormy night skies as the ship sailed back to Miami.

Other surprises on board the ship included a late night piano bar performance in the Mirage bar by America’s Funny Man Neil Hamburger with musical accompaniment by Ryan Sambol of the Strange Boys on piano. The impromptu set was an interesting twist on the final night of the festival as the unlikely duo who had never met until that night came together amidst the whiskey soaked piano keys and the smoky din of the bar.

Bruise Cruise Festival sails from Miami Fl to Nassau Bahamas Friday February 10-13, 2012. Tickets on sale here.

Bruise Cruise is ecstatic to announce a new addition to the lineup, a man who truly needs no introduction – Jello Biafra! The head prankster of 21st Century Renaissance Men, on a short list Biafra has worn the hat of musician (Dead Kennedys frontman); public speaker (first person tried for obscenities on a recorded album); record label jefe (co-founder of Alternative Tentacles); politician (Green Party candidate for Mayor of San Francisco and ran for a Presidential Nomination); and most recently released an album with his latest musical outlet, Jello Biafra and the Guantanamo School of Medicine entitled Enhanced Methods of Questioning.

But long before all this, since his teens Biafra has been a rabid vinyl junkie. Freshly inspired by a guest appearance on Mr. Jonathan Toubin’s fabulous Soul Clap, Jello has reinvigorated his DJ-ing career, so we are thrilled to have him spinning wax for Bruisers from his very own and very personal collection, mixing together soul, garage, surf, punk cuts with other “incredibly strange surprises”. And if dancing the night away to Biafra’s twisted personal collection is not treat enough for you, he will be hosting a surprise lecture on board the ship. It might be a rant. It might be Q&A? It might be all or none of the above! But it will definitely be a moment to behold!

Bruise Cruise has teamed up with Pro-Surfer Dylan Graves for our latest Bruise Cruise promo video which offers tips and advice for passengers to maximize fun, sun and take advantage of all the amenities (e.g., free room, open bar hours, etc.) on board the cruise. Dylan was on board the inaugural Bruise Cruise last year with fellow Pro-Surfer / comrade Alek Parker. Check out the video here: http://vimeo.com/34271195

Bruise Cruise Festival sails from Miami Fl to Nassau Bahamas Friday February 10-13, 2012. Tickets on sale here.

Bruise Cruise is thrilled to announce the addition of San Francisco’s Mikal Cronin to the lineup. Taking influences such as the late sixties Del Shannon and The Everly Brothers and filtering them through his own mutant Californian fuzz, Mikal deftly explores his singer-songwriter side that at moments feel like a punk Harry Nilsson or Curt Boettcher – balancing sweet melodies and chords with chunky, psychedelic guitar freakouts. Long time friend and collaborator Ty Segall will be performing in Mikal’s band on board the ship.

Bruise Cruise is excited to announce that America’s Funnyman, Neil Hamburger will be hosting multiple Bruiser comedy hours. He will be performing both on board the ship and on the island in Nassau, Bahamas. Mr. Hamburger is featured in the latest BC video. Directed by Neal Jonas, the video captures Mr. Hamburger marooned on a deserted island, where he wields his sense of humor to befriend a group of monkeys. See what happens when his jokes don’t make the chimps’ cut. Some stills from the video below.

In addition to comedy, “life on board” will also feature performance art & dance. Bruise Cruise is thrilled to have bounce artist Vockah Redu on the ship. Bounce music is a genre of rap specific to New Orleans that has invigorated crowds throughout the South. Vockah Redu & Cru will be rocking the boat and animating the stage with their dynamic revival of dance, music, and art. More than your typical hip-hop act, this theatrical performance sets the stage for a sweaty hands down booty up good time, transforming any party, bar, dance floor or in this case ship deck. In addition to their performance on board the cruise, Vockah & cru will be teaching a hip hop dance class called REDUISE AHCISE where they will show you how to rock da boat with your own personal booty dance.

The festival’s record label, Bruise Cruise Records, is excited to premiere the Quintron & Miss Pussycat track “Banana Beat”. The single with be part of a split 7” with Thee Oh Sees. The 7” is part of a limited edition vinyl collection featuring artists from the 2012’s lineup. Every attendee will receive one 7” in their complimentary gift bags.

In addition to Neil Hamburger, SF based stand-up comedian Anna Seregina will be performing on the ship. After being involved in theater and improv for nearly a decade and being funny for nearly a lifetime, she decided to take the plunge into stand-up comedy. Her style can nearly be defined as vocal and un-lady-like, drawing heavily on what little life experience she has. She has been described as having the “worst aura.” Most facts about her are true. Most truths about her are facts.

This past year, Bruise Cruise traveled across North America, showcasing a Bruise Cruise booth at festivals like Pop Montreal, FYF, CMJ, Fun Fun Fun and Next Big Nashville. Some recent photos from Fun Fun Fun of Ty Segall and David Liebe Hart below.

Quintron, one of the artists performing on Bruise Cruise 2012, has unveiled his signature sound system, appropriately titled the Swamp Stack. It will have its world debut on board the ship in international waters. Swamp Stack is the new waterproof mobile sound system built by Quintronics. This custom made 70 volt PA can run up to 50 different speakers at the same time – like a supermarket muzak system on steroids. The subwoofer is built into a huge white shrimp cooler and each speaker cabinet is faced with palm fronds from the streets of New Orleans. “This is how things turn out when you don’t have any money and all the hardware stores are closed. Around here we call it “clubhouse style”…like when you have to unscrew screws from the floor of the clubhouse to fix the roof of the clubhouse…and the walls are crooked cuz you ran out of wood. Oh, and it sounds as nasty as it looks…in a good way!” – Quintron

One ticket to the Bruise Cruise not only gets you access to ten concerts on board the ship, it gives you an exclusive pass to a private Bahamas Island Beach Party on Saturday night while the ship is docked in Nassau. The most requested songs will be showcased on the ship for all the harpoons and Moby dicks on board! Not to mention a ton of shots, shot, shots, and Garage Rock’s most wild conga lines.

New York Photographer Jackie Roman released a Bruise Cruise Edition photo essay featuring Jared Swilley of the Black Lips on the cover. The photo essay, titled TEENAGE RAMPAGE!, features studied portraits of “Bruisers” in tropical daylight & extraordinary locations shot at BC 2011. Described as a “hedonistic garage-rock media orgy”, the essay chronicles what happens when you release 400 garage rockers on a cruise ship. Photos and quotes from artists like the Black Lips, Oh Sees, Ty Segall, and the Vivian Girls are featured.

Bruise Cruise now offers an even more affordable deposit option for those who want to guarantee a spot on the ship. You can “Cruise Now and Pay Later” by putting down only $250 on your ticket to reserve the vacation of a lifetime. Bruise Cruise is thrilled to announce the addition of Fucked Up on the ship. Right from the start, this Toronto based band has been pushing musical and conceptual boundaries.
